What is Cub Scouting?

Cub Scouting is fun! No matter what grade you are in, first through fifth, it's a blast. Do you like to learn by doing? This is just the place. You can learn to tie knots, set up a tent, and shoot a bow and arrow, BB gun, or slingshot (at approved, supervised, council events). Have you ever cooked a meal on a campfire? Sent a secret code to a friend? Built a birdhouse? Hiked? Earn rewards for doing these things and more in Cub Scouts.

Cub Scouting is family oriented. Parents are encouraged to get involved however they can; brothers and sisters are always welcome and can attend all scout meetings and events (including campouts and summer camp).

Cub Scouts Belong to Packs and Dens

As a Cub Scout, you will be part of your own pack.

The pack is divided into smaller groups called dens. Each den has about four to eight boys. All of the Cub Scouts in your den are in the same grade as you and may even be in your class. Most of the scouts in Pack 30 live in either the Village of Frankfort, Town of Frankfort, or the Town of Schuyler, but boys from anywhere in Herkimer or Oneida county are welcome to join Pack 30. Like all other packs, we are part of the Boy Scouts of America. Pack 30 is associated with Frankfort Boy Scout Troop 1.

Cub Scouts Do Things and Go Places

Have you been to the local police station and talked to the policemen on duty? How about the fire station and sat in the driver's seat of the pumper truck? What about the fish hatchery? These are some of the places you might go with your den or pack. You'll also build and race a pinewood derby car and have the opportunity to go hiking and camping, fishing, scale a climbing tower and more.

Cub Scouts Earn Awards

Part of Cub Scouting is working toward rank advancement. Each rank has a series of required and elective adventures where you'll learn valuable skills and have a lot of fun.
